This Year is Not Over Yet

Yesterday, I received a notification from Spotify about Wrapped 2023 (“the artists, songs, and podcasts that ruled your listening this year.”)

My first reaction was: Wrapped? But this year is not over yet!

I am sure Spotify has its reasons to wrap the year up in November. But there’s a whole month of 2023 left and I’m not yet ready to wrap it up.

There’s this writer I love and follow: Alexandra Franzen. One of her many inspiring posts is called Today is Not Over Yet.

After receiving the notification from Spotify, I remembered Alexandra’s post and my mind went meta about it.

This year is not over yet.

New Year Resolutions: 2023

Whether or not you’re into New Year Resolutions, chances are, you had ideas about pursuing what was meaningful to you in 2023.

Think back to January 2023. What were your hopes from the year?

  • I’d love to change my job this year.
  • I will start exercising more regularly.
  • I will spend quality time with my aging parents or my family or my closest friends.
  • I will finally take guitar lessons.
  • I will get my finances in order.
  • I will…………………..(fill in the blank.)

Now, look back at the year you’ve had so far.

Have you made a lot of progress?

Have you made some progress?

Have you made zero progress?

Is that aspiration from January 2023 still relevant and important to you?

Or has it shifted and something else has taken a higher priority?

Wherever you are on your journey with your hopes for 2023, I want to remind you that you still have a whole month of this year left.

Not Too Late: Choose Consciously

You still have time to make what you want of this month.

You can still take the next small step that will move you forward.

You can also choose to take a big, audacious leap that will change the course of your life.

You can definitely decide to relax and enjoy this month without worrying about everything that remains undone.

The choice is completely yours and I trust that it will be right for you.

But if there’s one thing I’d encourage you to do is to choose consciously.

Don’t give in just because the year is getting Wrapped.

Don’t assume it’s too late to act on what you had hoped to accomplish.

And if you can, stop beating yourself up if you’re not where you wanted to be.

Wherever you are right now is okay.

But your next step matters.

You still have time.

Possibilities still exist.

This year is not over yet.
